Fashola Launches Expanded School Eye Health Programme for Pubic Schools *Hands Over Imota Asphalt Plant


Public school pupils in Lagos State will now benefit from the eye test initiative of the Nigerian Optometrists Association and the Lagos State Government, as Governor Babatunde Fashola, recently launched the state's Expanded School Eye Health programme. He urged a partnership between parents and teachers to ensure that the children were able to see in order to enhance their education.
Vision Field Boards, a board on which letters of the alphabets are written in different fonts in descending order for testing visual acuity, will be fixed in Vision Field Corridors, the location or "Corridor" where the board is fixed, for the children to test their sight at their own time while in school.

Unlike others who use their birthdays as a means to amass wealth and show off, the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, recently marked his 49th birthday with elderly citizens in three local government areas of the state, restating the commitment of his administration to give succour to the vulnerable members of the society.
The governor, who spent the day with the elderly, including a 103-year-old woman, interacted with them and members of their households, cut his birthday cake with them and presented them with gifts, including mattresses, fans, refrigerators, foodstuffs, clothes and beverages.

Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, has taken a step to redeem its pledge to bring back a stronger and more re-invigorated Youth Empowerment Scheme of Oyo State (YES-O) to the people, to serve as a stop gap for the teeming unemployed youths.
A screening exercise for the shortlisted candidates for YES-O was held from February 3rd to 7th at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, who issued a statement, said the exercise was part of government's efforts at reconstituting the scheme, which was inaugurated on December 1, 2011.
The governor, who dissolved the scheme on October 2013, attributed it to the need for the state government's drive and quest to re-invigorate it for optimum performance.

24,000 OGUN WOMEN TO BENEFIT FROM N400m GOVT LOAN



About 24,000 women in Ogun State will benefit from the N400 million micro-credit revolving loan scheme, which the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, in conjunction with ECObank Plc, is disbursing.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Sonubi, disclosed this in a chat with reporters in Abeokuta. She said that beneficiaries are to be given funds ranging between N20, 000 and N200, 000
Mrs Sonubi said the N400 million loan is the third phase of the revolving scheme given to women involved in petty trading and small scale businesses to boost their operations and empower them to perform their roles as wives and mothers effectively.
